Logical Reasoning in Human Genetics
Columbia Global Center – Tunis
In January 2020, just before the Covid pandemic shut down the world, I visited the Columbia Global Center in Tunis, Tunisia, hoping to find a way to work with them to set up a joint training program in Libya, where at the time my former collaborator and friend, Nabil Enattah, was serving as the President of the University of Tripoli. Nabil and I worked together on finding the genetic variant responsible for lactase non-persistence in Finland when he was a graduate student there in the 1990s.
Anyway, during that visit, I met many geneticists at the Institut Pasteur de Tunis, and we made some plans to try and work together and build a training program in Tunisia through the Columbia Global Center. However, the Covid pandemic suddenly shut down international travel along with everything else, and that program was nipped in the bud.
When life gave us lemons, however, we decided to make a lemon meringue pie, and took advantage of the nascent Zoom technology to try and host an online version of our Logical Reasoning in Human Genetics course for geneticists all across North Africa, since it was impossible to visit them in person because of Covid. Furthermore, most scientists were sheltering in place, so the appeal of an online course was at a peak when we started thisa project in 2021, when we often had 300-400 live participants, with many more watching the videos at their leisure.
On this page I would like to present those videos, linked form the facebook page of the Columbia Global Center in Tunis – Please follow them for updates!
